The book fair is by far on of my most favorite things about being a school librarian. Scholastic is a huge name in publishing for children's books and so many of my titles have that red Scholastic ribbon on the bottom of the back cover. A lot of student favorites are on display at the book fair, and they are for sale! Students can by them, take them home, and KEEP THEM! In an age where online shopping for books seems to be quickly overtaking the world, the book fair is often the closest a lot of students will get to the magic of browsing in a book store.
Every year during our spring parent teacher conferences, the library plays host to the Scholastic book fair. Cases upon cases of books and other materials arrive and for a few short days the library is transformed from lending service to bookstore-much to the delight of the students.

After a much needed break, school is back in session here in Shullsburg and *most* of the students are ready and raring to go. January is always a time of high energy here at school; many of the kids take a good amount of time to come down from their holiday high and many still have family celebrations throughout the month. The promise of a possible snow day also looms large in January which is always a welcome change of pace for both students and teachers.
In the library new books are being prepared and displayed for students to browse while our library lessons span the realm of getting to know nonfiction to digging into fictional genre to writing our first book reviews. The student council is gearing up for our kisses and crushes sale as well as the school book fair (February 21 and 22, watch for more details!). It's going to be a fun and busy year so stay tuned for more reviews and news! |
